Rocca di Neto is situated in the hinterland of the Crotone Riviera, within a wine-growing landscape shaped by the River Neto and the transition between flat areas, river terraces and gently rolling hills. The Mediterranean climate, characterised by bright, hot and dry summers and mild winters, favours the even ripening of the grapes, aided by breezes from the Ionian Sea and the temperature variations between day and night. The soils, shaped by the river’s dynamics and the hilly terrain, contribute to balanced wines with good fruit expression and a distinctive savoury character.
The local winemaking tradition is reflected above all in wines produced under the Melissa DOC and Val di Neto IGT designations. Among the most representative varieties, Gaglioppo and Greco Nero stand out for red wines, alongside Greco Bianco, Trebbiano Toscano and Malvasia Bianca in white wines and traditional blends. Red wine vinification emphasises structure, colour and tannic texture, whilst white wine vinification focuses on freshness, floral aromas and a clear expression of the fruit. Rocca di Neto’s identity thus stems from the combination of Calabrian grape varieties, established viticultural practices and a sun-drenched environment, which imbues the wines with intensity, balance and a Mediterranean character.
