Caiazzo is situated on a hillside within the Colline Caiatine landscape, between the middle Volturno valley and the Trebulani Mountains. The vineyards are spread across well-exposed slopes, where the breeze helps to keep the grapes healthy and promotes gradual ripening. The climate combines bright, dry summers with cooler winters, influenced by the proximity of the Matese mountains, creating conditions that help preserve freshness and balance.
The local geology comprises sandy-clay soils, containing clay, sandstone and carbonate components, alongside sandier soils in the hilly areas. This variety of soil types yields different results in the vineyard and supports a style of viticulture capable of expressing structure, finesse and a distinctive terroir character. Among the most representative grape varieties are Pallagrello Bianco, Pallagrello Nero, Casavecchia and Aglianico, alongside other Campania grapes grown in selected plots.
Caiazzo’s wines include fragrant and savoury whites, reds with ripe fruit and well-defined tannins, as well as more complex expressions achieved through extended ageing. The winemaking tradition, documented for centuries, is currently undergoing a phase of revitalisation of the ancient local grape varieties, through manual harvesting, grape selection and winemaking processes designed to preserve the identity, balance and distinct character of the terroir.
