Albarola is situated in the valley floor of the lower Val Nure, within the municipality of Vigolzone, on the left bank of the Nure stream, at an altitude of approximately 204 metres. It is a transitional area between the plain and the foothills, where the presence of water, the valley breezes and good sun exposure combine to create favourable conditions for viticulture. The soils in the area comprise deposits from the Nure alluvial fan and, on the surrounding slopes, geological formations attributable to the Ligurian flysch, with clayey matrices and limestone components that produce fresh, savoury wines with a pleasing balance.
Within the Colli Piacentini region, Albarola primarily embodies the winemaking tradition of the Val Nure, based on aromatic Malvasia di Candia, Ortrugo and Trebbiano Romagnolo for the whites, alongside Barbera and Croatina for the reds. The winemaking process produces still, semi-sparkling and sparkling wines, obtained through secondary fermentation in a pressure tank or in the bottle, depending on the desired style. The vineyard-dotted landscape harmonises with ancient stately homes, wine cellars and historic routes along the River Nure: a rural heritage that is still very much alive, where wine culture is intertwined with the village’s history and the gastronomy of Piacenza.
