Capo Mortola is situated on a headland overlooking the Mediterranean, in the Ventimiglia area, where the proximity of the sea and the shelter provided by the hills combine to create a mild, sunny climate that is ideal for the ripening of the grapes. The landscape retains the typical character of western Liguria: terraced slopes, Mediterranean crops, dry stone walls and a strong integration between nature and agricultural activity.
The geology is one of the area’s most distinctive features. The headland is formed by a succession of sedimentary rocks, including the fossil-rich Capo Mortola calcarenites, as well as flysch, marl and silty marl. These substrates, combined with the slope and proximity to the sea, help to shape wines with a distinct territorial character, characterised by freshness, savouriness and a recognisable Mediterranean character.
Within the wine-growing landscape of the Western Riviera dei Fiori, the key grape varieties are primarily Vermentino, Pigato and Rossese, produced as fragrant and lively white wines, delicate rosés and fragrant, balanced and spicy reds. Viticulture is traditionally characterised by meticulous cultivation, manual management of the terraces and harvests timed to full aromatic ripeness. The historic presence of olive trees, citrus groves and vines, together with the agricultural culture of Liguria, completes the identity of an elegant and highly distinctive coastal terroir.
