Montecarotto occupies a prominent hilltop position in the historic Castelli di Jesi area, at an altitude of around 388 metres, between the Esino and Misa valleys. The vineyard landscape extends across soils characterised by a limestone-clay mixture, which promote balanced ripening and lend the wines tension, structure and distinct character. The mild climate, tempered by breezes from the Adriatic and the Apennines, helps to preserve freshness and aromas throughout the growing season.
The flagship grape variety is Verdicchio, grown here in the ‘Classica’ zone of the Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi appellation. Its expressions include still wines of varying complexity, ‘Classico’ and ‘Superiore’ versions, ‘Riserva’ interpretations, as well as sparkling wines and passito wines as stipulated by the appellation regulations. In the glass, one finds aromatic finesse, crisp acidity, a savoury texture and a characteristic almond-like finish – elements that enhance both the drinkability of the younger wines and the development of the more mature selections.
The local winemaking tradition is ancient and is still expressed today through meticulous care of the vineyard, selective harvesting and winemaking methods designed to highlight the identity of Verdicchio and the hilly character of Montecarotto.
