San Felice del Molise is situated in the hilly inland landscape of Lower Molise, in an elevated and breezy location reaching an altitude of around 550 metres in the town centre, with a varied range of elevations. The vineyards are set within an Apennine landscape characterised by undulating hills, valleys and soils composed of sandy-clay substrates, including silt, sandstone, marl and clay: components that help produce balanced, savoury wines with a pleasant structural texture. The climate, which is cooler than in coastal areas, benefits from exposure to the winds and significant temperature variations between day and night – conditions that help preserve the aromas and freshness of the grapes.
The signature grape variety is Tintilia, grown in the region and celebrated in the red and rosé wines of the Tintilia del Molise DOC. Alongside this variety, Montepulciano, Aglianico and Sangiovese are used for the reds, whilst Falanghina, Trebbiano, Fiano, Greco and Malvasia contribute to the richness of the region’s white wines. Production practices follow a tradition that pays close attention to canopy management, pruning and grape selection, with separate vinification processes for each type and ageing methods designed to support the wines’ aromatic development. The village’s Croatian-Molisan culture completes the identity of a terroir deeply rooted in rural heritage and the artisanal care of the vines.
