La Morra is situated on one of the most recognisable hills in the Barolo area, within a vineyard-covered landscape characterised by slopes, ridges and varied exposures. The cool, temperate subcontinental climate benefits from the protection of the Alps and the influence of sea breezes from the Ligurian Sea, whilst the altitude, ventilation and orientation of the vineyards help to define distinct microclimates.
The geology is particularly varied: alongside the Sant’Agata Fossili marl, the La Morra conglomerates are found, characterised by pebbly layers and gravel-rich soils, as well as the Vena del Gesso and the Cassano Spinola Formation, present in specific parts of the territory. This diversity gives rise to wines that vary in finesse, flavour profile and depth.
The main grape variety is Nebbiolo, used for Barolo DOCG, alongside Barbera, Dolcetto, Freisa, Chardonnay and Sauvignon, as well as the Pelaverga Piccolo used for Verduno DOC, a designation that also includes part of the municipality of La Morra. Local viticulture is based on careful pruning, manual canopy management, grape selection and winemaking methods that respect the identity of each plot, with ageing processes designed to enhance elegance, structure and longevity. The vineyards, interwoven with hamlets, chapels and ancient rural paths, tell the story of a tradition deeply rooted in the farming culture of the Langhe.
