Acquaviva delle Fonti is situated on the southern slopes of the Murgia plateau, in a hilly landscape characterised by varying altitudes, limestone outcrops and karst features. The vineyards coexist with olive groves, almond groves, arable land and woodland, within a rural setting characterised by farmsteads, dry stone walls and ancient farm tracks. The subsoil, consisting mainly of limestone and characterised by deep aquifers, helps to define a well-drained terroir, with soils that may include clayey and calcareous components.
The climate is Mediterranean: hot and dry in summer, but tempered by the altitude and the temperature variations between day and night. These conditions favour the gradual ripening of the grapes and help to preserve balance and freshness.
The area’s signature grape variety is Primitivo, which is also cultivated using the traditional ‘alberello’ training system and is associated with the Gioia del Colle appellation. Its regional expressions give rise to intense, structured reds, alongside rosé versions and lighter-styled wines. Local viticulture combines traditional practices with a contemporary winemaking approach, highlighting the wines’ identity, concentration and Mediterranean character.
