Torricella is situated on the eastern side of the province of Taranto, in an agricultural landscape that stretches from the heart of the Murge Tarantine towards the Ionian coast and northern Salento. The Mediterranean climate, characterised by hot, dry summers, wetter winters and the beneficial influence of the sea, promotes the even ripening of the grapes and good aromatic concentration. The vineyards coexist with olive groves, arable land and the characteristic rural pattern of dry-stone walls, elements that define the identity of the area.
The soils vary in composition, comprising sand, silt and clay, often combined with limestone substrates and the typical red Apulian soil. This diversity allows the vines to produce wines with a balanced structure, characterised by warmth, intensity and a distinctively Mediterranean character. The area’s flagship grape variety is Primitivo, the star of the Primitivo di Manduria appellation, alongside black grape varieties such as Negroamaro and white varieties common in the Ionian Arc. The traditional ‘alberello’ training system, still in use today, is complemented by modern agronomic practices focused on yield control, grape protection and ensuring the health of the bunches. The local agricultural history and the heritage of knowledge passed down through the generations complete Torricella’s oenological profile.
