Selegas is situated in the agricultural heart of the Trexenta region, amongst wide valleys and low hills nestled at the foot of Mount Nuritzi. The vineyard landscape extends mainly across the slopes and the oldest alluvial terraces, within a complex geological setting comprising marl, limestone, sandstone and volcanic materials. The soils, which are often deep and locally rich in carbonates, help to produce wines with a savoury character and a balanced structure, whilst the Mediterranean climate favours the even ripening of the grapes and good aromatic concentration.
The tradition of viticulture is rooted in an ancient agricultural culture, handed down through the ages alongside knowledge of local grape varieties. Alongside varieties widespread in Sardinia such as Monica, Cannonau, Nuragus, Vermentino, Bovale and Bovaleddu, the region preserves a rich ampelographic heritage that allows for a variety of styles, ranging from fresh, fragrant whites to harmonious rosés, right through to the most intense and structured reds. The area includes the Trexenta IGT, which encompasses white, red and rosé wines, including sparkling and ‘novello’ versions. Winemaking practices emphasise the selection of grapes and the adaptation of vinification techniques to the colour and character of the wine, preserving the link between the grape variety, the hilly landscape and the oenological identity of Selegas.
