Greve in Chianti is one of the most diverse areas of the Chianti Classico region, nestled in the heart of the hills between Florence and Siena. The territory stretches along the valley of the River Greve and encompasses a variety of vineyard landscapes, from Panzano to Lamole, from Montefioralle to the Greve area, each characterised by specific exposures, altitudes and geological formations. The vineyards are mainly situated in the hills, in an environment with a temperate continental climate, featuring sunny summers, good ventilation and significant temperature variations between day and night.
The geology alternates between Galestro, Alberese, Pietraforte, Macigno, claystones and marls, contributing to the complexity of the soil and climate conditions and to the expressive variety of the wines. Sangiovese is the main grape variety, complemented by Canaiolo, Colorino, Ciliegiolo, Malvasia Nera and other authorised varieties, including international ones. This produces Chianti Classico wines that combine freshness, a structured tannic profile and aromas of cherry, violet, aromatic herbs and spices, with a natural predisposition for ageing.
The winemaking tradition is deeply rooted in the region’s agricultural history and is reflected in the presence of farmhouses, parish churches, hamlets and ancient rural settlements. In the cellar, winemaking practices focus on bringing out the best in the fruit and the terroir, with ageing in wood and in bottle tailored to the style of the wine.
