Radda in Chianti is situated at the heart of the Chianti Classico region, between the Arbia and Pesa valleys, in a hilly landscape characterised by woods, slopes and vineyards. The continental climate features cold winters, dry, hot summers and significant temperature variations between day and night – conditions that favour the gradual ripening of the grapes and the development of well-defined aromas. The geology alternates between marl, stratified clay, alberese and calcareous sandstone; the soils, generally shallow and rich in stone, provide good drainage and a natural ability to curb the vigour of the vines. Sangiovese is the star of local viticulture and produces Chianti Classico wines with character: fresh, savoury and underpinned by a fine tannic structure, with aromas of red fruits, violets, aromatic herbs and subtle spicy notes. The permitted complementary grape varieties can enrich the profile of the various interpretations. Winemaking follows a tradition focused on showcasing the terroir: grape selection, controlled fermentation, ageing in wood or neutral containers and, for the more ambitious versions, extended maturation and bottle ageing. Radda’s winemaking history dates back to the Middle Ages and is still evident today in the interplay between wineries, ancient villages, castles and rural culture.
