Acquaviva is situated in the southern part of the Montepulciano area, on the edge of the Val di Chiana, in a rural landscape characterised by sweeping views, gentle undulations and a long rural tradition. The vineyards are mainly situated on the slopes and terraces that mark the transition from the plain to the hills, at generally low altitudes and with good exposure to sunlight.
The climate benefits from the influence of the valley and the breezes that sweep through this part of Tuscany: bright, dry summers promote the ripening of the grapes, whilst the temperature variations between day and night help to preserve their aromas and freshness. The soils have a varied composition, comprising clay-loam and sandy soils, which are locally deeper, providing useful water reserves and promoting balanced ripening.
The main grape variety is Sangiovese, known locally as Prugnolo Gentile, alongside Canaiolo Nero, Mammolo, Colorino and other traditional Tuscan red grape varieties. The winemaking approach favours red wines characterised by acidity, a structured tannic profile and aromas of cherry, violet, Mediterranean herbs and spices. The winemaking process combines careful harvesting, precisely controlled maceration and ageing in wood or in bottle, in keeping with the estate’s style, whilst maintaining a focus on the balance between elegance, longevity and terroir.
