Moncioni is situated in the high hills of the Valdarno, in a rural landscape centred around the village and characterised by slopes, agricultural terraces, woods and olive groves. The hilly location, with vineyards situated at high altitudes and enjoying excellent exposure, favours the gradual ripening of the grapes, aided by significant temperature variations between day and night. This results in conditions suited to wines with a fresh structure, an elegant profile and a distinct sense of terroir.
The landscape preserves the legacy of traditional Tuscan mixed farming, in which vines and olive trees coexisted within the same farming system, alongside terraces, embankments and water management structures. The presence of wooded areas and ancient chestnut groves contributes to the biodiversity and complexity of the agricultural environment, creating a natural mosaic favourable to viticulture.
Sangiovese is the variety most closely aligned with the area’s winemaking tradition, complemented by other Tuscan and international grape varieties used to enrich the wine’s structure and depth. The wines are primarily produced as reds, made through hand-harvesting, careful selection of the grapes, meticulous fermentation and ageing processes designed to bring out the fruit, balance and character of the hillside terroir. The village’s medieval history and the continuity of its agricultural practices complete the authentic character of this territory.
