San Gemini is situated on a hillside in the Conca Ternana, at the foot of the Martani Mountains, in a landscape where altitude, aspect and ventilation all contribute to defining a complex terroir. The climate features hot, dry summers, harsher winters and plenty of sunshine – conditions that favour the even ripening of the grapes and help preserve their freshness.
Local viticulture places particular emphasis on the characteristics of Umbrian tradition, with Ciliegiolo taking centre stage among the red grape varieties and Grechetto, alongside Trebbiano, Sangiovese and other grapes capable of flexibly interpreting the different plots. The reds express aromas of fresh fruit, balance and well-measured tannins, whilst the whites focus on liveliness, savouriness and aromatic clarity. There is no shortage of rosés, sparkling wines and passito wines, produced through contemporary interpretations of the region’s grape varieties.
The San Gemini wineries combine selective harvesting, separate vinification and temperature control, alternating between stainless steel, oak and longer ageing periods depending on the desired style. The presence of ancient caves in the historic centre also evokes a tradition of storage and maturation that remains closely linked to the village’s history. The result is a dynamic regional wine production, capable of combining Umbrian identity, oenological innovation and respect for the grapes’ natural rhythms.
