Montjovet is home to one of the most distinctive wine-growing landscapes in the Lower Aosta Valley, where the vineyards wind their way along the terraced slopes overlooking the Dora Baltea. The environment, characterised by favourable exposures and a particularly mild alpine climate, offers ideal conditions for the balanced ripening of the grapes. The terraces, often supported by dry stone walls, feature predominantly sandy, well-drained soils that promote controlled vigour, concentration and aromatic finesse.
The star of the local tradition is Nebbiolo, known in the Aosta Valley as Picotendro, alongside red grape varieties such as Dolcetto, Pinot Noir, Neyret, Freisa and Vien de Nus. This ampelographic heritage gives rise to dry, harmonious and structured red wines, characterised by delicate aromas, notes of almond, spices and earth, and, in the oak-aged versions, evolved nuances of leather and vanilla.
Viticulture preserves traditional training systems, including tall pergolas supported by chestnut wood, suited to the hilly terrain and the manual management of the vineyards. The history of the region, which has been criss-crossed by major transport routes since ancient times, is reflected in the continuity of its agricultural practices and in the strong identity of its mountain wines.
