Nus enjoys a privileged location in the central valley of the Dora Baltea, between the valley floor and the slopes leading up to the Saint-Barthélemy valley. The vineyards are mainly situated on the best-exposed slopes, in a bright and breezy alpine setting, where sunny days, low rainfall and marked temperature variations between day and night promote the ripening of the grapes and help preserve their freshness. The hillside vineyards, generally situated at altitudes of between approximately 450 and 750 metres, are set on well-drained soils of morainic and alluvial origin, suitable for precision viticulture.
The region’s ampelographic heritage finds its defining characteristic in the Vien de Nus, alongside the Petit Rouge and other traditional Aosta Valley varieties. The Valle d’Aosta Nus appellation showcases red wines produced predominantly from a blend of these grape varieties, offering fragrant, balanced wines with a distinct mountainous character. Alongside the reds, Pinot Gris in the local ‘Malvoisie’ selection gives rise to Nus Malvoisie, which is also produced in a passito version, obtained by drying the grapes after harvest. Terraced vineyards, steep slopes and manual cultivation reflect a deeply rooted winemaking tradition, capable of transforming the complexity of the Alpine landscape into fresh, distinctive local wines.
