Este is situated on the southern slope of the Euganean Hills, between the hillsides and the alluvial plain, in a wine-growing landscape characterised by sunny exposures, low altitudes and a marked variety of soils. The area enjoys a temperate climate with a Mediterranean influence, characterised by hot, dry summers, relatively mild winters and significant daily temperature variations – conditions that favour the even ripening of the grapes and the preservation of their aromas.
The geology alternates between substrates of volcanic origin, such as trachyte, rhyolite and basalt, and marine sedimentary formations, as well as colluvial and alluvial soils. This complexity, combined with well-drained soils rich in mineral content, helps to produce wines with a distinct territorial identity, capable of expressing freshness, structure and aromatic intensity.
Local viticulture focuses on traditional varieties such as Moscato Giallo, Moscato Bianco, Serprina and Pinella, alongside Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. This yields fragrant whites, sparkling and semi-sparkling wines with a pleasant liveliness, as well as more compact and enveloping reds. The area also forms part of the Fior d’Arancio Colli Euganei appellation, produced in both sparkling and passito styles. The care taken with the vineyards, selective harvesting and the distinctive winemaking techniques for the various styles reinforce the link between Atestina tradition and modern oenological sensibilities.
