Chiampo is situated in the middle of the valley of the same name, at the foot of the Lessini Mountains and along the course of the stream that flows through the Vicenza area towards the plain. The wine-growing landscape alternates between the valley floor, hillsides and higher slopes, with varied exposures that encourage the gradual ripening of the grapes. The climate, temperate and breezy, is influenced by the protection offered by the surrounding hills but benefits from the air currents that flow up the valley, creating favourable conditions for the health of the grapes and for well-defined aromas.
The geology comprises volcanic and volcanic-detrital materials, including basalt, crumbly tuff and alluvial deposits in the flat areas. These soils offer good drainage, balanced fertility and a rich mineral content – elements that contribute to the freshness and character of the wines. Among the most representative grape varieties of the Vicenza area are Garganega, Durella, Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet, produced as white, red, rosé, semi-sparkling and sparkling wines.
Local viticulture makes the most of both the Veronese pergola system, linked to the Lessini tradition, and the espalier system, with pruning and canopy management designed to promote aeration, vegetative balance and full ripening. The result is a diverse wine-growing heritage, where the valley’s character, the influence of the mountains and the volcanic soil interact with a long-standing agricultural tradition.
