Aldo Rainoldi
Aldo Rainoldi is a winery based in Chiuro, in the heart of Valtellina, an Alpine region of Lombardy where vines grow on steep slopes, terraces and mountain soils shaped by the interplay of rock, aspect and manual labour. The winery’s identity is closely linked to Nebbiolo, known locally as Chiavennasca, a grape variety which, in this context, is capable of expressing subtle aromas, refined tannins and good ageing potential. The winery interprets the main Valtellina appellations, focusing on Rosso di Valtellina DOC and Valtellina Superiore DOCG, whilst paying close attention to the different expressions of the historic sub-zones and the characteristics of individual terroirs. Viticulture here is the ‘heroic’ style typical of the Valtellina slopes: vineyard work requires constant care, manual harvesting and precise monitoring of the grapes’ ripeness. The stated agricultural approach prioritises integrated production, the reduction of insecticides, the elimination of herbicides, the use of emergency irrigation only, and practices aimed at maintaining the plants’ vegetative balance. In the cellar, the style maintains a recognisable link with the territory, seeking wines with a mountainous character – fragrant, fresh, well-balanced in structure and capable of combining aromatic precision with depth. The result is a profile consistent with the most distinctive aspects of Valtellina: wines centred on the Chiavennasca grape, Alpine elegance and the continuity between the terraced landscape, the raw material and the winemaking interpretation.
