Feudo di San Maurizio

Feudo di San Maurizio is a Aosta Valley wine producer based in Sarre, in the central part of the valley, in an alpine setting characterised by steep slopes, sunny exposures and mountain viticulture practised on plots that are often terraced. Launched in the late 1980s, the project has become an integral part of the Valle d’Aosta or Vallée d’Aoste DOC appellation, with a particular connection to the Torrette area, where Petit Rouge is the most distinctive varietal.

The region is characterised by distinct natural conditions: soils shaped by glacial origins, a dry climate and significant daily temperature variations all contribute to a slow ripening process, which preserves the wine’s freshness, aromatic profile and mineral character. In this environment, vineyard management requires careful, hands-on attention and a meticulous selection of the raw material, with an approach that emphasises the distinctive characteristics of the local grape varieties rather than standardising the style.

Alongside Petit Rouge, the winery’s philosophy consistently focuses on other indigenous Aosta Valley varieties such as Fumin, Mayolet, Cornalin and Vuillermin, interpreted with a minimalist, terroir-driven approach. The winemaking process aims to respect the mountainous character of the grapes, seeking a balance between fruit, savouriness, tension and depth. The wines of Feudo di San Maurizio are thus recognisable for their Alpine character, the spicy finesse of the reds and an expressive consistency that portrays Sarre as a place of research, grape variety conservation and the cultural continuity of Aosta Valley viticulture.
