Producers/ La Palazzola
La Palazzola
La Palazzola is an Umbrian producer based in the southern part of the region, a few kilometres from Terni, with vineyards situated on gentle slopes between Vascigliano di Stroncone and the surrounding area. The hilly location, exposed to a constant south-easterly breeze, helps to keep the grapes healthy and encourages slow ripening, whilst the clayey soils, rich in mineral content, provide a distinctive textural foundation that supports freshness, savouriness and aromatic depth.
The winery’s identity is characterised by research centred on the relationship between soil, climate and each individual harvest. Within this framework, grape varieties such as Riesling, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Trebbiano, Malvasia and aromatic varieties are cultivated, interpreted through an approach that focuses on the precision of the raw material and the character of the terroir. Of particular note is the winery’s specialisation in Metodo Classico-Ancestrale sparkling wines, produced through fermentation in stainless steel tanks and, in some cases, with the addition of oak, to create wines with taut, citrusy and mineral profiles and a creamy texture.
Alongside sparkling wines, the expression of the terroir extends to sweet and passito wines, where grape drying, prolonged ageing and maturation in small barrels enhance concentration, acidity and complexity. The result is a consistent range of wines, with an Umbrian character yet unconventional in style, in which the freshness of the hillside terroir and the richness of the soils give rise to a distinctive, clear and recognisable style.
