Zidarich

Zidarich is a producer based in the Trieste Karst, in Prepotto, in the municipality of Duino Aurisina, in a part of Friuli Venezia Giulia nestled between the Adriatic Sea and the limestone plateau on the border with Slovenia. Its identity stems from a harsh yet luminous landscape, where limestone outcrops are everywhere and the red soil is scarce and precious, shaped by the wind and by significant natural variations in temperature. In this setting, the vines are cultivated as a direct expression of the Karst limestone, with a focus on varieties rooted in the local agricultural heritage, in particular Vitovska, Terrano and Istrian Malvasia.

The winemaking approach prioritises a minimalist interpretation of the raw material: soil management, the exclusion of chemical fertilisers and systemic treatments, fermentation relying on indigenous yeasts, and minimal intervention during the winemaking process. For the white wines, maceration on the skins is part of a deliberate stylistic choice, designed to impart depth, structure and a distinctive textural quality without compromising the varietal character. Ageing in wood and bottling without filtration or fining complete a philosophy focused on the wine’s natural evolution.

Zidarich wines express the Karst with a distinct character: savouriness, mineral energy, acidic tension and a body that is never excessive. These are interpretations that combine controlled rusticity with precision, conveying in the glass the hardness of the rock, the proximity of the sea and the cultural depth of viticulture on the frontier.
