Fasana is situated along the coastline of the Crotonese Riviera, near the mouth of the River Neto and the territory of Strongoli, where the vineyard landscape meets riverine environments, alluvial plains and low terraces overlooking the Ionian Sea. The bright and breezy Mediterranean climate benefits from the proximity of the sea and the influence of coastal currents, promoting the gradual and complete ripening of the grapes.
The soils in the area consist of fine, calcareous sediments, sands and terraced conglomerates, with an alluvial component that contributes to water availability and the diversity of the vineyards. It is within this context that the winemaking tradition of Crotone is rooted, centred primarily on Gaglioppo, Greco Nero and Greco Bianco, alongside Magliocco, Malvasia Bianca and other grape varieties typical of the Ionian coast of Calabria.
The wines of the area generally express structure, warmth and aromatic intensity in the reds, whilst the white wines highlight freshness, savouriness and Mediterranean aromas. Vineyard management combines traditional training systems, including the ‘alberello’ method, with modern systems aimed at balanced control of canopy growth and ripening. The historic presence of the fortified farmstead at Fasana evokes an ancient agricultural culture, in which vines, olive trees and cereals have always shared the landscape.
