The Cratere degli Astroni is one of the most recognisable features of the Campi Flegrei wine-growing landscape, where the vineyard stretches across the outer slopes of an ancient volcanic complex, close to a nature reserve of great environmental value. The soil, composed of ash, lapilli and pyroclastic materials, provides a light, well-drained matrix that fosters wines with a distinct mineral character and a clear expression of the terroir. The proximity of the sea contributes to a mild and breezy climate, whilst the crater’s distinctive shape creates local conditions characterised by significant temperature variations and temperature inversions, which help to preserve the wines’ aromatic freshness.
The area’s winemaking tradition places particular emphasis on Falanghina, the star of the white wines, and Piedirosso, a benchmark among the Phlegraean reds. The former expresses floral and citrus aromas, liveliness and savouriness; the latter offers fruity and spicy notes and a balanced structure, closely linked to the volcanic soils. The winemaking process prioritises precise interventions that respect the raw material, with fermentation and ageing in stainless steel designed to preserve the wine’s integrity, fragrance and distinct character. The result is a range of bright, fresh wines deeply connected to the Astroni landscape.
