Capaccio Paestum boasts a wine-growing landscape shaped by the convergence of the Piana del Sele, the Tyrrhenian Sea and the hills that border the area to the east. The proximity of the coast brings in sea breezes and helps to define a Mediterranean climate, favourable to consistent ripening and distinct aromatic profiles. The soils of the plain, formed from alluvial deposits and characterised by limestone components, alternate with terraces, ancient dunes and travertine outcrops, creating different conditions between the areas closest to the sea and those nearer the hillsides.
The local winemaking identity is reflected in the Paestum appellation, which includes white, red and rosé wines, as well as sparkling, sweet, passito and novello versions. Among the authorised grape varieties, Aglianico, Piedirosso, Fiano, Greco, Coda di Volpe, Moscato, Primitivo, Barbera and Sciascinoso stand out, alongside other varieties suited to the province of Salerno. The resulting wines combine Mediterranean freshness, ripe fruit and a pleasant savoury character. The winemaking process enhances both the drinkability of the young wines and the structure of the more ambitious styles, whilst maintaining a constant link with the agricultural tradition of the plain and the millennia-old history of Paestum, an ancient city of Magna Graecia.
