Paduli is situated on a hillside in the landscape of eastern Irpinia, on a spur nestled between the Calore and Tammaro valleys and jutting out towards the Apulian border. The vineyards are mainly situated on the medium-sized hills, at altitudes approaching 400 metres, in an environment characterised by marked seasonal variations, good sunlight and conditions favourable to the balanced ripening of the grapes.
The soils, predominantly clay-limestone, combine water-retention capacity with natural drainage, supporting vines capable of expressing aromatic intensity, freshness and structure. The local grape variety heritage features Falanghina, Fiano and Greco as the main white varieties, whilst Aglianico is the leading red variety. This yields bright, fragrant whites with floral and fruity notes and a pleasant mineral character, alongside deeper, savoury and long-lived reds.
Padula’s winemaking tradition preserves the legacy of the ancient ‘maritate’ vines, now complemented by modern vineyards trained using the espalier, Guyot and radial systems. Hand-harvesting, temperature-controlled fermentation and ageing in stainless steel, oak or the bottle allow the style of the wines to be tailored, whilst keeping the character of the terroir at the heart of the wine.
