Fagnano, in the hilly area of Monte San Pietro, embodies one of the most authentic aspects of the Colli Bolognesi through its undulating vineyard-covered landscape, characterised by slopes, ridges and well-exposed hillsides. The altitude and the breezes from the Apennines contribute to a balanced climate, with bright summer days, temperature variations that favour ripening, and ideal conditions for preserving freshness and aromas.
The geological composition is part of the complex structure of the Bolognese hills, where clays, marls, sandstones and limestone components alternate, providing the vineyards with well-drained, mineral-rich soils capable of supporting careful viticulture. In this context, Pignoletto – locally known as Grechetto Gentile – is the region’s flagship white wine, produced in still, semi-sparkling and sparkling versions, all of which are fresh, floral and savoury. Alongside it are Barbera, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Neretto Bolognese, which form the basis of fragrant, structured and versatile reds.
Fagnano’s winemaking tradition combines family-run management, manual care of the vineyards and winemaking methods that respect the varietal identity. The grapes are harvested at different times depending on ripeness and aspect; in the cellar, the focus is on controlled fermentation, natural secondary fermentation and ageing processes designed to enhance balance, drinkability and depth.
