Sora occupies a central position in the Liri Valley, nestled in the alluvial basin through which the River Liri flows and surrounded by the Apennine hills. The vineyard landscape alternates between flat areas, gently sloping hills and higher slopes, creating varying conditions in terms of exposure, drainage and grape ripening. The soils of the plain consist of Quaternary alluvial deposits, whilst in the hilly areas, limestone substrates and medium-textured soils with silty components and good depth are found.
The climate, which is temperate and influenced by the mountainous terrain, favours gradual ripening, aided by the temperature variations between day and night and the water supply from the river system. Alongside the grape varieties authorised for the Frusinate IGT, the local heritage preserves varieties of particular interest, including the Uva Giulia, historically cultivated in the Sora area as well. This grape produces red wines of intense colour, which are fruity, fresh and well-structured, capable of expressing good acidity and length.
Sora’s winemaking tradition is rooted in an ancient agricultural history, evidenced by the continuous cultivation of vines in the valley. The wines that best embody the region’s identity are produced through careful harvests, manual picking, traditional winemaking methods and a focus on the distinct characteristics of the plains and hills.
