Broni occupies a strategic position at the foot of the Oltrepò Pavese hills, at the entrance to the Scuropasso Valley and at the transition between the plain and the foothills of the Apennines. This transitional landscape alternates between alluvial terraces, vine-covered slopes and hill ridges, with soils of varying texture, often characterised by marl, sandstone, clay and limestone components. The temperate climate, enhanced by the hillside exposures and the temperature variations between day and night, supports the balanced ripening of the grapes, preserving their freshness and aromatic richness.
The local winemaking tradition places particular emphasis on Croatina, Barbera, Uva Rara and Ughetta di Canneto, grape varieties that contribute to the character of the area’s red wines and to the expressions of Buttafuoco dell’Oltrepò Pavese. Alongside these varieties, Pinot Noir plays a significant role in both still wines and sparkling wines produced using the Metodo Classico, where acidity, finesse and depth come together in harmonious balance. The winemaking process also includes semi-sparkling and rosé wines, which convey freshness and immediacy. In Broni, wine is an integral part of the landscape and local culture: historic wineries, festivals dedicated to grapes and a long tradition of winemaking preserve a wine-making heritage deeply rooted in the local area.
