Poggio Monteti is situated in the foothills of the Grosseto Maremma, near Capalbio, in a valley some 15 kilometres from the Tyrrhenian Sea and at an average altitude of 145 metres. The Monteti hill shields the vineyards from the strongest Mediterranean winds, fostering a constant sea breeze that helps to preserve balance, aromatic integrity and freshness during ripening. The climate is typically Mediterranean, with bright, dry summers, mild winters and a marked temperature difference between day and night.
The soils have a complex, stony structure resting on a clayey subsoil: a combination that ensures effective surface drainage whilst retaining moisture reserves in the deeper layers. In this environment, international red grape varieties such as Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Alicante Bouschet and Mourvèdre thrive, producing intense, structured, Mediterranean wines underpinned by an elegant tannic structure.
Viticulture follows a plot-by-plot approach, with each plot managed according to its own characteristics. Manual harvesting and careful selection of the grapes are followed by separate vinification in stainless-steel vats. The partially underground cellar utilises gravity to precisely manage fermentation, maceration and ageing, bringing out the personality of each plot and vintage.
