Revò enjoys a panoramic setting on the so-called Terza Sponda Anaune, overlooking Lake Santa Giustina between the valleys carved out by the Novella and Pescara streams. The vineyards stretch across sun-exposed slopes, often steep and terraced, in a mountainous environment where the altitude, sunlight and significant temperature variations between day and night promote slow ripening and well-defined aromas. The historic vineyards are generally situated between 600 and 750 metres above sea level, on loose, well-drained volcanic soils that help the vines express fresh, savoury and terroir-driven characteristics.
The star of the local winemaking tradition is Groppello di Revò, an ancient indigenous red grape variety with compact bunches, cultivated for centuries on the sunniest slopes. Its grapes produce wines with intense colour, a spicy and fruity profile, underpinned by a pleasant freshness. Alongside this variety, Müller Thurgau, Pinot Noir, Traminer and Chardonnay are also grown; at higher altitudes, these develop elegance, aromatic finesse and mineral tension. Viticulture retains an artisanal character: work in the most inaccessible vineyards is carried out by hand, whilst winemaking makes the most of selected harvests and, in some cases, ageing in wood. The history of Groppello lives on in festivals, family-run wineries and the tradition of distilling grape marc.
