Breganze is a wine-growing area in the Vicentine foothills, stretching across the hills and the immediate plain between the Astico and Brenta valleys. The landscape alternates between gentle slopes, terraces and flat areas, with mineral-rich soils capable of supporting a diverse and distinctive viticultural tradition. The appellation, recognised in 1969, showcases both local varieties and more widely grown grape varieties, produced in accordance with a deeply rooted winemaking tradition.
The region’s signature grape variety is the Vespaiola, a white grape with a distinct freshness, used for still wines, sparkling wines and the Torcolato passito. In the case of still wines, the grapes are harvested at full ripeness and vinified using slow, temperature-controlled fermentation, so as to preserve their aromas and flavour intensity. For Torcolato, on the other hand, the finest bunches are twisted and hung in well-ventilated rooms, where they are left to dry, concentrating sugars and aromas before slow fermentation and ageing.
Alongside these wines, Breganze offers whites made from Tai, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay and Sauvignon, as well as reds from Merlot, Cabernet, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Nero and Marzemino. The variety of grape varieties and winemaking techniques paints a dynamic picture of the region, striking a balance between agricultural heritage, contemporary sensibilities and the culture of the foothills.
