Fregona lies at the foot of the Cansiglio plateau, in a landscape where the hills meet the mountains, where slopes, woodland and pre-Alpine air currents define a distinct and varied terroir. The hillside exposures, often facing south-west, promote good ripening of the grapes, whilst the breeze helps to keep the bunches dry and intact. The area’s geological composition, linked to the limestone formations and karst features of the Cansiglio, provides soils capable of fostering freshness, savouriness and expressive finesse.
The local viticultural heritage centres on traditional varieties such as Glera, Verdiso and Boschera, the latter being particularly well-suited to drying thanks to its thick skin and natural ability to retain acidity. The ultimate expression of this tradition is the Torchiato di Fregona DOCG, a passito wine from the Colli di Conegliano appellation produced through the manual selection of the bunches, prolonged drying and slow fermentation and ageing in wood. The result is an intense, golden and persistent wine, characterised by a balance between sweetness, freshness and a distinctive hint of bitterness. Alongside this speciality, the dry Boschera wine highlights the area’s more mineral and dynamic character, confirming the link between the region’s signature grape varieties, artisanal practices and the rural culture of Fregona.
