Elio Ottin
Ottin is a Aosta Valley producer based in the Aosta area, in an alpine wine-growing environment where the vines grow on exposed slopes, at significant altitudes, and on plots characterised by a strong mineral component. Its identity is linked to the Vallée d’Aoste DOC designation and to a mountainous wine-growing landscape, shaped by poor, stony, morainic and sandy soils, which lend the wines a sense of tension and verticality. The alpine climate, with short summers, plenty of sunshine and marked daily temperature variations, favours slow ripening, distinct aromatic profiles and a natural, expressive freshness.
The production focuses primarily on grape varieties linked to the local heritage, alongside varieties which take on an original, mountain-inspired character in the Aosta Valley. Petite Arvine, Fumin, Petit Rouge and Pinot Noir reflect an approach based on a deep connection to the terroir, careful attention to the raw materials, and environmentally friendly farming techniques. In the vineyard, a careful and minimalist approach prevails, focused on maintaining the balance of the vine and preserving natural conditions.
In the winery, the style prioritises precision, aromatic clarity and a distinct sense of place, without overshadowing the expression of the fruit and the mineral character. The whites are characterised by freshness, savouriness and liveliness, whilst the reds combine finesse, a fruity profile and an alpine character. Ottin thus interprets the Aosta Valley with consistency, contributing to the promotion of an authentic, measured form of mountain viticulture that is deeply rooted in its environment.
