Prezza overlooks the Conca Peligna from a hillside and foothill location, at an altitude of between approximately 480 and 580 metres, with unobstructed views towards the Maiella, the Morrone and the Sirente massif. The vineyard landscape is shaped by the convergence of the Apennine hills, good ventilation and favourable exposures, within a microclimate that allows the grapes to ripen gradually. The soils of the valley derive from ancient fluvial-alluvial terraces and detrital deposits, a matrix that contributes to the structural richness and savoury character of the wines.
The main grape variety is Montepulciano, producing intense, fruity and spicy red wines with pronounced tannins and natural ageing potential. The same grape gives rise to Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo, traditionally produced through brief contact with the skins or by bleeding, and characterised by a brilliant colour, freshness and remarkable versatility at the table. Alongside the reds, there are expressions of Trebbiano d’Abruzzo, vinified mainly in stainless steel to preserve their aromas, savoury character and dynamic flavour profile. Production methods alternate between stainless steel, carefully controlled maceration and ageing in wood, following a style that highlights the terroir’s identity, balance and potential for development. The village’s agricultural history and the continuity of family-run winemaking practices complete the authentic character of the Prezza terroir.
