Cori is one of the most recognisable examples of wine-growing in the hills of Lazio, situated on the slopes of the Lepini Mountains and overlooking the Pontine Plain. The landscape alternates between hills, vineyards and olive groves, with a mild climate influenced by the humid currents of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the breezes coming down from the mountains. This ventilation promotes balanced ripening of the grapes and helps to preserve their freshness and aromatic integrity.
The geological composition is varied: the limestone rocks of the Lepini are complemented by volcanic sediments, red soils, tuffs and pyroclastic materials, which provide good drainage and impart a characteristic savoury profile. The grape variety profile centres primarily on Bellone and Nero Buono, varieties deeply rooted in the local agricultural history, alongside Cesanese, Greco Bianco, Malvasia del Lazio and Montepulciano.
The Cori DOC showcases this identity through white and red wines, produced both from prescribed blends and from single-varietal wines made from local grape varieties. The whites are characterised by balance, fruity aromas and a savoury note; the reds express colour, structure, dark fruit and a harmonious texture. The winemaking tradition, dating back to pre-Roman times, is now complemented by technical practices focused on careful grape selection, the promotion of indigenous grape varieties and winemaking methods that respect the character of the terroir.
