Franciacorta stretches between the morainic hills south of Lake Iseo and the foothills of the Brescia plain, in a vineyard-covered landscape shaped by glacial deposits and the presence of the lake basin. The soil composition is varied: pebbles, sand and silt of morainic origin predominate, with local variations that influence drainage, vigour and ripening times. The climate benefits from the moderating influence of the lake, breezes from the Alpine valleys and significant temperature variations between day and night – conditions that help preserve acidity and aromas.
The grape varieties grown consist mainly of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, alongside Pinot Blanc and Erbamat, a traditional variety prized for its later ripening and ability to maintain freshness. The appellation is characterised by secondary fermentation in the bottle and a long ageing period on the lees, factors which contribute to defining the finesse of the mousse, aromatic complexity and depth of flavour. Franciacorta, Satèn, Rosé, Millesimato and Riserva express different interpretations of the same terroir, ranging from elegance and savouriness to mineral tension. The local winemaking history, shaped by monastic tradition and the evolution of modern oenology, completes the identity of a region recognised for its stylistic precision and strong connection to the landscape.
