Rocchetta Tanaro occupies a picturesque setting in the hilly Monferrato Astigiano region, on the right bank of the Tanaro, where viticulture blends seamlessly with a landscape of slopes, woods and ancient rural settlements. The continental climate, with hot summers, mild transitional seasons and cold winters, encourages the gradual ripening of the grapes and contributes to the wines’ aromatic character. The soils alternate between gravelly-sandy alluvial deposits in the areas close to the river and the Pliocene sands of the Astiano region on the hillsides: porous, well-drained soils capable of supporting viticulture characterised by balance and precision. The local winemaking history is deeply linked to Barbera and Grignolino, grape varieties that have found a particularly well-suited environment in Rocchetta Tanaro. Barbera produces intense, fresh and structured red wines, with ripe fruit and a distinct vibrancy on the palate; Grignolino offers more fragrant, spicy and dynamic profiles. Alongside the traditional grape varieties, the area has long maintained a focus on varietal experimentation, including Pinot Noir and Merlot. Red wine production, carried out with carefully controlled maceration and ageing in stainless steel, oak or bottle depending on the production style, enhances the identity, longevity and expressiveness of the terroir.
