Stroncone occupies a prominent hilltop position on the southern edge of the Terni Basin, with the village situated at an altitude of around 450 metres and a landscape characterised by hillsides, valleys, olive groves, vineyards and wooded areas. This varied topography favours a range of exposures, good drainage and a style of viticulture capable of producing distinctive characteristics even within the same area. The temperate climate, with warm, sunny summers and colder winters, supports the gradual ripening of the grapes and contributes to a balance between structure, freshness and aromatic complexity.
Stroncone falls within the production area of the Amelia DOC, a designation that showcases a diverse range of grape varieties: Trebbiano Toscano, Grechetto and Malvasia characterise the white wines, whilst Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo and Merlot offer red wines of varying intensity, ranging from fragrant, fruit-driven styles to more structured versions suited to ageing. Alongside the traditional varieties, international grape varieties are also cultivated on specific hillside plots. Techniques include white wine vinification methods aimed at preserving freshness, maceration periods of varying lengths for the reds, and ageing in wood for the more complex wines. The wine-growing history of the district forms part of the long winemaking tradition of the Terni area, documented as far back as Roman times.
