Bevagna occupies a privileged position in the Umbrian Valley, between the alluvial plain and the rolling hills that lead the landscape towards Montefalco. The vineyard area features a remarkable variety of aspect, altitudes and local conditions, with soils comprising sandy-gravelly alluvial deposits, clays and lacustrine sands, marl and calcareous-clay soils. The climate, which is Mediterranean-continental in character, alternates between hot, dry summers – without excessive dryness – and cold winters, with rainfall spread throughout the year: conditions favourable to slow ripening and good aromatic concentration.
The hilly area of Bevagna forms part of the region recognised for Montefalco Sagrantino, produced from the native grape variety of the same name in both dry and passito styles. Alongside this variety, the ampelographic heritage includes Sangiovese, Grechetto and Trebbiano Spoletino, the cornerstone of the valley’s winemaking tradition and also well-suited to sparkling and passito wines. The red wines express structure, intensity and ageing potential, whilst the whites combine body, freshness and a distinct sense of place. Production emphasises skin contact during fermentation, natural drying of the grapes and prolonged ageing in wood and in the bottle, keeping alive an agricultural heritage documented by centuries of local history.
