Tezze di Piave, a hamlet of Vazzola in the Treviso area, forms part of the wine-growing landscape of the plain at the foot of the Treviso Pre-Alps, shaped by the Piave River and its long history of flooding. The soils alternate between gravel, sand, silt and clay: a mineral-rich, well-drained matrix capable of supporting a diverse range of viticulture and producing wines with marked freshness, featuring fruity and floral notes and a distinctive savoury element.
The temperate climate, with hot summers, mild winters and significant daily temperature variations in the period leading up to the harvest, ensures the grapes ripen evenly. Alongside Glera, used for producing sparkling and semi-sparkling wines from the Prosecco area, the local grape variety heritage includes Raboso Piave, Merlot, Cabernet, Pinot, Chardonnay, Manzoni Bianco, Verduzzo and other traditional varieties of the Veneto plain.
The oenological identity of Tezze di Piave is linked above all to Raboso Piave, the basis for energetic and long-lived red wines, including those of the Malanotte del Piave appellation, which are also produced by drying a portion of the grapes. Of particular historical significance is the ‘Bellussera’, a radial training system devised right here in Tezze in the 19th century by the Bellussi family. This traditional method, often associated with mulberry trees, remains one of the most recognisable expressions of the local wine-growing culture to this day.
