The Sarzana coastline stretches between the Magra plain, the sea and the first hills leading up to the Colli di Luni, in a wine-growing landscape where the influence of the sea interacts with that of the valley and the Apuan Alps. The climate is mild, sunny and breezy: the coastal breezes promote the health of the grapes, whilst the temperature variations between day and night help to preserve their aromas and freshness.
The soils alternate between alluvial deposits of the plain and hilly soils of marine origin, comprising clay, sand and, in some areas, red soils rich in clay. It is an environment particularly well-suited to Vermentino, the star of the Colli di Luni whites, alongside Albarola and Trebbiano Toscano. Among the red grapes, Sangiovese and other traditional varieties of the area predominate.
The region’s white wines express floral and fruity aromas, a distinct savouriness and a balance underpinned by freshness; the more structured wines can develop greater depth and complexity. Careful harvesting, gentle pressing and fermentation methods that respect the varietal character underpin a production process focused on expressive clarity. The winemaking tradition, linked to the historic Luni area and the valley’s trade routes, thus continues to accurately interpret the relationship between the sea, the plain and the hills.
