Negrar di Valpolicella lies in one of the most distinctive valleys of the Valpolicella Classica region, nestled between the hills of Verona and the Lessinia mountains. The area stretches along a broad valley in the south, which narrows as it heads north towards the ridge between Fane and Prun. Here, the reduced moderating influence of Lake Garda allows greater scope for the cool air currents coming from the Lessini Mountains, promoting significant daily temperature variations and a gradual ripening of the grapes.
The hillside vineyards are mainly situated on stratified limestone substrates, often rich in rock fragments and featuring rocky outcrops; in the lower-lying areas, alluvial soils are also present. This variety of soil types contributes to the expressive diversity of the wines. The grape varieties used consist mainly of Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella, alongside traditional varieties permitted by the appellation. Negrar interprets the Valpolicella range with particular authority, from the fresh and fragrant Valpolicella to the more structured Ripasso, right through to Amarone and Recioto, produced by drying the grapes.
The Veronese pergola system, historically linked to local viticulture, protects the bunches and facilitates balanced canopy management. The ancient marogne, terraces and drying rooms bear witness to a deeply rooted winemaking culture, capable of combining traditional practices with a contemporary sensibility.
