Nereto is situated in the heart of the Val Vibrata, in a hilly landscape opening out towards the Adriatic Sea and forming part of the Colline Teramane wine-growing region. The historic centre lies at an altitude of 163 metres, whilst the vineyards extend to higher elevations, in a setting characterised by its proximity to the sea and the natural backdrop of the Apennines. This location fosters a temperate climate, with bright, breezy summers, significant daily temperature variations and conditions favourable to the balanced ripening of the grapes.
The soils of Nereto are described as fertile and well-suited to agricultural cultivation, with hilly terrain capable of supporting vigorous and productive vines. The flagship grape variety is Montepulciano, the star of the Colline Teramane reds, which are generally intense, structured and long-lived, with aromas of dark fruits, morello cherry and violet. Alongside it is Trebbiano d’Abruzzo, the basis for white wines with a dry, harmonious and pleasantly fresh profile.
Local viticulture preserves traditional training systems such as the pergola, alongside single or double espaliers. Vineyard management aims to enhance the plant’s natural balance, avoiding forced growth practices and resorting to emergency irrigation only when necessary. Nereto thus embodies a deep-rooted agricultural tradition, capable of combining territorial identity with oenological precision.
